At Decelera we make investors pitch

Yes, you read right, didn’t you know about Reverse pitching?

The traditional startup pitch format involves entrepreneurs presenting their business ideas to investors and answering questions in the hopes of securing funding. However, what if we flipped this format on its head? What if startups had the opportunity to ask investors questions and pitch their businesses based on their answers? This is the concept of “reverse pitch”, and it’s a great idea that is gaining popularity in the startup world.

When we invite investors to Decelera we prepare a special day for pitching, by starting with their presentation we help startups find the ones who are a better fit for their business. Instead of entrepreneurs presenting their ideas to a room full of investors, investors present their investment criteria and business interests to a crowd full of startups. The startups then have the opportunity to ask questions and pitch their businesses based on what they’ve learned.

There are several advantages to this approach. First, it allows startups to better target their pitches to investors who are more likely to be interested in their business. Rather than presenting a generic pitch to a group of investors who may or may not be a good fit, startups can focus their attention on the investors who are most likely to be interested in their business.

Second, it gives startups the opportunity to learn more about potential investors before deciding to work with them. By asking questions and learning about the investors’ investment criteria and business interests, startups can better understand whether the investor is a good fit for their business. But this works not only on the business side, Startups can use this method to better understand if the Investors have a personal match with the values of the company or not. This can help prevent startups from wasting time and resources on investors who aren’t a good match and will not respect/value the company’s culture.

Third, and the most important part for us, it levels the playing field between investors and startups. In a traditional pitch format, investors hold all the power. They ask the questions, set the terms, and ultimately decide whether to invest. By flipping the format and giving startups the opportunity to ask questions and pitch their businesses based on the investors’ answers, startups have more control over the process and pitching becomes more human. Instead of having Investors “over“ Startups, we start all at the same level.

This practice we have been implementing in Decelera for the past 5 years it’s now gaining popularity in the startup world. It’s a great way for startups to find investors who are a good fit for their business, and for investors to find startups that meet their investment criteria. If you’re a startup looking for funding, you know how easier it gets when you know more about an investor. And if you’re an investor looking for new opportunities, consider implementing the reverse pitch to connect with potential companies.
